July 4th & 24th Holiday Tips

The crowds and clamor of Independence Day and Pioneer Day festivities, and the thunderous sounds of the fireworks, may frighten companion animals. Cats and dogs often become alarmed and disoriented during July 4th and Pioneer Day celebrations and may escape from their yards or homes, resulting in a lost and possible hurt or killed companion animal. The following precautions are to protect animals during this year's celebrations and reminds us that they don't enjoy the holiday's noisy spectacles:

  • Resist the urge to take your companion animal to the fireworks displays!
  • Never leave animals outside and unattended, even in a fenced yard. They may panic, escape and get lost/hurt/killed.
  • Keep your companions inside your home in a sheltered, quiet area. Maybe leave on a television or radio at normal volume to keep him/her company while you're attending the picnics and parades.
  • Make sure your companion animals are wearing identification or have been microchipped so they can be returned if they do get lost.
  • Animals found running in the streets should be checked for identification, if they have none, they should be taken to any vet to be scanned for a microchip. If this does not help, call Animal Control where they then will have the best chance of being reunited with their guardians.
  • Don't ever leave him/her in the car. Cars can heat up to a deadly degree in just moments, even with the windows open. Partially opened windows don't provide sufficient air but do provide an opportunity for your friend to be stolen.

If you follow these precautions, both you and your companion animal can have a safe and happy Fourth of July and Pioneer Day.

Event Report 4.4.06

There was a good turn out at the Horse Expo. Many people people stopped by to visit with us and learn about what we do. We met a lot of animal-loving people who were interested in helping out at the farm.

One of our horses Mama Tuki, who came from the feedlot was adopted out a week after the Expo to a very good home. A young couple who had visited the booth and saw her picture there.

We held a drawing and had many great prizes to give away. Thank you to the following who dontated prizes for the drawing:

  • IFA - Intermountain Farmers
  • A.A. Callisters
  • Saddle Up
  • Horse Crazy
  • Gypsy Moon Emporium
  • Collete Engel

There were also some great volunteers who helped make this happen. Thanks to all who helped out! It wouldn't have happened without you!

A Winter Walk

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favour freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are people who want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
