Charlie

In Memory of Charlie

Whisper

Whisper. I miss you so much Mrs. Large (Whisper). You were such a "pushy broad", but I'd give anything for you to be chasing the horses off at feeding time again. You were our first "large" horse, and I remember how funny it seemed to have a regular horse here after a year with just minis. You kept everyone in line after Lady died; it was your time to be on top. All your life you had been at the bottom of the totem pole, but these last 2 years you made up for it. Joker misses you, and Vashti too. The minis miss their fearless leader. I learned a lot from you during your 4 years here with us, we had a lot of good adventures together, you were such a good girl. It's just not the same without you, but I still feel your spirit. You will be missed by everyone here both animal and human. Thank you for being in my life. Whisper died on October 23, 2003.

Butch

Butch. You were such a good piggie, Butch, and I am glad that you got to live here with us for the last 2 years. It was so hard to watch you decline, and in the end I knew that you were ready to leave the body that kept you in such pain and confusion. I knew that I had made the right decision. I miss you so much. Your brother Beavis misses you too, but I think he also knows that you were ready to leave. You were on of the luckier pigs in this world, you had 2 mommies that love you. We will never forget you Butchy. I love you. Butch died on October 23, 2003.

Jay Jay

Jay Jay. Althought Jay Jay was not with us for very long, I became very attached to him very quickly. His guardian brought him here just 6 months or so ago, along with his friend, Luey - a potbellied pig. Although in the twilight of his years, Jay Jay was very healthy and happy until the last few days of his life. I was amazed at how protective he was about brother Luey. He always called me if he thought Luey were in some kind of trouble. I assured him that I would take good care of Luey when he was gone, and not to worry about him. His earlier life was spent as a "rodeo goat", but was rescued some years ago from that life of hell. I'll never forget his sweet little "old man" voice, calling me when he wanted in or out of his pen. Such a precious soul. But his body just gave out, he was 14 years old when he left us on August 4, 2003. Thank you, sweet Jay Jay for being a part of our lives. I miss you so much and we will take good care of Luey, he misses you too.

Wilbur

Wilbur Gobble. One of our longest residents here, he was around seven years old. He died August 4, 2003.

Legacy

Legacy. Legacy was rescued from a livestock auction; the rest of her six siblings were not so lucky. Legacy had what appeared to be a broken leg, so they didn't want her. I named her Legacy because I felt she was the living legacy of others not so lucky to be spared from certain death at the slaughterhouse. She was just a couple months old when she came here. We do not know how her shoulder was injured, but our vet said she would always limp. She did well, and even got over the limp for a while, but in the end she just couldn't even get up anymore and I could tell she was in pain. She told me it was time to go. Sweet Melissa, Legacy's sponsor and good friend of mine, came out and performed Reiki on her before the vet arrived. She left us at just 16 months old or so. A short stay, but a very powerful one. She touched a lot of hearts and changed a lot of minds about the nature of sheep. She was euthanized July 31, 2003.

Pranava

Pranava. He was just a little baby and the odds were so stacked against him, but he was such a fighter, and loved by all who met him. He was buried in the Peace Garden at the Ching Farm Sanctuary by Jon and Christi. Thanks for sharing your short but very important life with us, Pranava, I miss you already. He died May 20, 2003.

Annie

Annie, you died so suddenly, you were so young. You were raised in the house from a baby, so dear to us. You even taught your rooster how to peck at our boots, he will miss you too. She died May 9, 2003.

Mira

Mira, we were hoping so much that you would be our miracle and pull through. When we rescued you from the feedlot, we knew you were sick, but hoped we could pull you out of it, but I guess it was just too late. You fought so hard and were so sick. You were a very beautiful and friendly horse. Now you are with your baby. She died May 6, 2003.

SirSir

Sir Sir, he was so beautiful and loving, but in the end sickness took him from us. He died April 19, 2003.

Tayor Taylor

Taylor

Rita, a sweet peahen, you've been here since the very start. You will be missed, especially by Raj the peacock and Phyliss the other peahen.

Remington Steel, you had such a hard bunny life before coming to stay with us. Your rabbit friends will miss you as will the rest of us.

Clara

Clara the Goat, she came to us with a degenerative goat disease so we could only watch as her body got worse, but her spirit stayed so strong! We will miss you Clara! She died March 14, 2003.

Clara Cluck, a hen who she spent the early part of her life before coming to the sanctuary going to schools and teaching kids how wonderful chickens are. She died of old age on January 14, 2003.

The Black Princess, a hen, who will be missed by all.

Quatro

Quatro. My sweet handsome Quatro, the farm is not the same without you. I miss you so much. I am glad you are out of pain, but so sad that you were ever in pain. I am so glad that you were a part of my life. Watch over your brothers Gordy and Baby and your sister Suzy Q. I will never forget you. I'll see you over the Rainbow Bridge someday.

Milton. I knew you were a free spirit from the first week of your life when you separated from the other little chicks and joined another group. You decided to go swimming in the piggie's pool when just a month old, and we almost lost you then. But I was there for you that time, and got you out of there just in time. This time I was not there for you and did not get you out in time. I am so sorry. You were such a good boy, you took care of Jasper's hens after he died, and they miss you too. But Mrs. Milton hatched some babies, your babies, just 2 weeks after you left us ! So, we will still have "little Miltons" running around the farm. Thank you for being in our lives, I love you.

Hoppy

Hoppy. Your life was short and a constant struggle, but you fought through it with so much spirit and determination. It was my greatest honor to have gotten to know you. You will be missed, even though your stay here was short.

My precious friend, Lady Luck. You were the most beautiful horse I had ever seen, (a palamino quarter horse - 16 plus hands), you had an air of aristocracy when she walked. A head-turner for sure! Lady, you were my first horse and I will never forget you. I miss you so much. The landscape here at the farm will never be the same without you.

SuzyQ

Sweet Suzy Q. I am so sorry that you could not stay with us longer. The short time (almost a year) that you were in our lives here at the farm was very precious. I will never forget you, and neither will Ham Solo. He misses you too. He has moved in with Hoover and Lizzy because he misses you at night. I am glad that the last year of your life was happy, and that you finally got a name, and the love that you deserved. Thank you for being in our lives.

Gordy. I miss you so much, Gordy. You were the only pig I have ever known with blue eyes! I know you were in pain in the end, and I am glad your are at peace now. But it has never been the same without you. You were a special little man. Thank you for being in our lives.

Baby. You came to us when your family desserted you. I am so glad that you had the love and appreciation here that you missed so much from your previous family. Humans are very unpredictable, but I am happy that we had you in our lives for a time. I love you! And you will not suffer any more.

Zena. You were only in our lives for a very short time, but you made such an impact on all who knew you. I am sorry we did not have more time together. You were a very very special princess and I love you so much.

Lucy. You taught me how sensitive and intelligent turkeys can be. I miss you, and so does Ethel, and Mr. Gobble. You brought life to the farm, and I miss your sweet personality. I am glad you got to have 3 Thanksgiving Dinners with us!

Stanley. You were a brave and courageous rooster. I miss you, but am glad that you are out of pain. Mrs. Jasper misses you too.

MammaSon. We never did know your story, but I am glad that I got to be a part of the happy ending. Your bunny roommates, Bugs Bunny, Cecelia, Ginger, and Romeo miss you too. The heat was just too much for you, I am sorry. Now you are at peace. I miss you.

Red Dog

Red Dog. You were the first dog companion I had in my adult life and I miss you so much. You were loyal and true to the very end. We went through a lot together and you taught me a lot about unconditional love. I will never forget you, my sweet boy.

Jasper

Jasper. You were the gentlemen of gentlemen when it comes to roosters. From the time you were 2 days old, I knew that you were extra special. You were the most precious rooster I have ever known and I miss you so much. Milton has taken good care of your hens. Thank you for being in my life. I will never forget the smell of your feathers!

Boots. You were one of the original kitties in the clan, and I will always have a special place in my heart for you. You saw a lot of new cats come here in your day. Thank your for helping to open my heart.

Smokey Joe Robinson. I know that you were overwhelmed when we moved in and brought all those cats to your territory. You waited for your humans to come back to you, but they never came. I love you so much, and I was glad in my selfish way, that you got to stay with us, although I think it broke your heart. You know we loved you. You and Cry Baby were the first of the Ching Farm Rescues. Cry Baby misses you too.

A Prayer for the Animals
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals. Especially for animals that are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all your mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them, we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
