Larry was found as a baby by a family who took him in and kept him for 8 months or so. He lived in a small pen in the backyard where he had little contact with his people and he thusly never developed any social skill with humans. He was turned over to Ching in 2005 when he was almost 2 years old and we had to neuter him as it had not been taken care of yet. Now he is known for his vocal grumblings whenever anyone gets too close to him, earning him the nickname "Complainy Larry". Even when his mommy Faith tucks him into his blankies in the winter he will squeel and grumble.
Pigs are very difficult to find homes for. They make very lovable companions but there isn't anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley that is zoned for pigs. At the sanctuary we have to have a special permit. This does mean that although we try to adopt animals out, most of the pigs end up with us for their entire lives.
